    Outdoor food hall with Airstream kitchens and a bar. Easiest lunch downtown, easy with kids.

  • Maggie's Herb Farm Cafe

    Garden-forward sandwiches, soups, and pastries. Slower pace, worth the wait.

    Casual room with a strong beer list and solid bar eats at lunch.

Worth the drive

Ten to thirty minutes from your door, and each one earns the car. Beach spots get busy in summer — go early or late.

    E. Gregory St. — 5 min

    The dollar-bill-covered Pensacola institution. Steaks, burgers, and their own brewery. Touristy and still good.

  • Joe Patti's Seafood

    Waterfront — 7 min

    Not a restaurant so much as a landmark fish market with a sushi counter and deli. Best place to buy dinner to cook at the house.

  • The Grand Marlin

    Pensacola Beach — 25 min

    The area's best-known seafood room, on the sound side with sunset views. Reserve.

  • Peg Leg Pete's

    Pensacola Beach — 25 min

    Loud, sandy, oyster-heavy, and beloved. Expect a wait in season; the downstairs bar is the workaround.

  • Flounder's Chowder House

    Pensacola Beach — 25 min

    Beachfront with a huge sand patio. Fine food, unbeatable setting for a late afternoon.

  • Hub Stacey's at the Point

    Perdido — 30 min

    Waterfront dive with sandwiches and boats pulling up. Pure Gulf Coast.

  • Nancy's Haute Affairs

    Gulf Breeze — 20 min

    Sandwiches and pastries locals cross the bridge for. Lunch only.

  • Shux Oyster Bar

    Charbroiled oysters without the beach traffic.

Museums & history

Pensacola is one of the oldest European settlements in the continental U.S., and downtown is where that history is kept.

  • National Naval Aviation Museum

    NAS Pensacola — 20 min

    One of the largest aviation museums in the world and free to enter. Base access rules change periodically, so check current visitor requirements before you drive out.

  • Historic Pensacola Village

    Seville Square — walkable

    Eleven properties across the historic district, including furnished 19th-century homes. One ticket covers the village and several museums for a week.

  • T.T. Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum

    Plaza Ferdinand — walkable

    The Renaissance Revival building at the head of Palafox. Local history plus a children's discovery floor upstairs.

  • Pensacola Museum of History

    Seville — walkable

    Compact, well-curated local history at the edge of the square.

  • Pensacola Museum of Art

    Jefferson St. — walkable

    Housed in the old city jail. Rotating exhibitions, small permanent collection.

  • Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum

    NAS Pensacola — 20 min

    177 steps to one of the best views on the Gulf Coast. They also run evening ghost tours.

  • Pensacola MESS Hall

    Downtown — walkable

    Hands-on science museum built for kids. The rainy-day answer.

  • Fort Pickens

    Gulf Islands National Seashore — 40 min

    Civil War-era masonry fort at the western tip of Santa Rosa Island, inside the national seashore. Bring water.

Zoo, animals & the outdoors

Most of this is a short drive, and most of it is better before noon in summer.

  • Gulf Breeze Zoo

    Gulf Breeze — 20 min

    Fifty acres, 900+ animals, and the Safari Line train through the free-roaming preserve. The area's main zoo and an easy half day.

  • Gulf Islands National Seashore

    30–40 min

    Undeveloped white sand and dunes past Pensacola Beach. Quieter than the public beach and worth the extra ten minutes.

  • Pensacola Beach

    25 min

    Sugar-white sand, the boardwalk, the fishing pier, and the Casino Beach stage.

  • Big Lagoon State Park

    Perdido — 30 min

    Boardwalks, an observation tower over the lagoon, and calm shallow water for kids.

  • Blackwater River / Adventures Unlimited

    Milton — 45 min

    One of the purest sand-bottom rivers in the country. Tubing and kayaking, May through September.

  • Plaza de Luna & the Bayfront Pier

    S. Palafox — walkable

    The bottom of Palafox, opening onto Pensacola Bay. Best thing downtown at sunset, and free.

  • Seville Square & Bayview Park

    Walkable / 10 min

    Live-oak shade in the historic district, and a full park with tennis, a dog beach, and bayou views in East Hill.

Markets & shopping

Saturday morning downtown is the single best introduction to the city.

    Saturdays, roughly 8am–2pm, year-round. 150+ vendors: produce, plants, pastries, coffee, and local makers stretched up the plaza. Rain rarely cancels it.

    Garden St. to the waterfront

    Clothing, books, home goods, and galleries in a walkable eight-block stretch.

  • Gallery Night

    Palafox — walkable

    Street festival and art walk on a Friday evening most months. Palafox closes to cars; galleries, vendors, and live music open up.

    Double-A baseball on the waterfront, April through September. One of the best-sited minor league parks in the country.

    Bay Center — 10 min

    SPHL hockey, October through March. Cheap tickets, loud building.

  • Vinyl Music Hall

    S. Palafox — walkable

    Mid-size music venue in an old Masonic lodge. Check the calendar the week you arrive.

    Live escape rooms. Reliable group activity.

  • Downtown food tasting tour

    Walkable

    Guided walking tour with stops at several restaurants. A good first-afternoon orientation.

Air show dates come from the Navy's published 2026 schedule and preliminary 2027 schedule and can shift. Festival entries marked typical timing recur every year in the same window; exact dates are usually announced a few months ahead. Always confirm before booking travel around one.
